After reaching out to <a href=\"https:\/\/iamovers.mobilityex.com\/index.html#\/search?loc=New%20Zealand&amp;lat=-40.900557&amp;lng=174.885971&amp;range=50&amp;assocs=800&amp;fvw=c&amp;ctry=New%20Zealand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IAM members in the country<\/a>, all have confirmed that economic pressures are the key drivers for the exodus. Fiona Conroy of IAMTrusted <a href=\"https:\/\/iamovers.mobilityex.com\/index.html#\/search?svc=Conroy%20Removals%20Ltd.&amp;range=50&amp;assocs=800&amp;fvw=c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Conroy Removals<\/a> said that cost-of-living pressures, wage differentials with Australia, and housing affordability are driving the exit. \u201cYoung professionals and families are the largest cohort, often seeking higher wages and lower living costs in Australia, with skilled tradespeople remaining a strong outbound group due to aggressive Australian recruitment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IAMTrusted members, Mark Pitcher of <a href=\"https:\/\/iamovers.mobilityex.com\/index.html#\/search?svc=New%20Zealand%20Van%20Lines%20Ltd.&amp;range=50&amp;assocs=800&amp;fvw=c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Zealand Van Lines<\/a> and Graham Bell of<a href=\"https:\/\/iamovers.mobilityex.com\/index.html#\/search?svc=Transworld%20International%20Removals%20Limited&amp;range=50&amp;assocs=800&amp;fvw=c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Transworld International<\/a> both confirmed that the trend has been ongoing for at least two year&#8217;s. \u201cThis upward trend began in 2023 and has been consistent over the last three years,\u201d said Bell, with imports to the country significantly down since the pandemic. \u201cThe decline has been driven largely by New Zealand\u2019s weaker economic conditions and stricter migration requirements, which reduced the number of people qualifying to move to New Zealand,\u201d Bell confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking forward to 2026, Fiona Conroy expected the buoyant export market to continue. \u201cUnless there is a major economic shift in New Zealand particularly around wages, employment opportunities and housing costs we anticipate that outbound migration to Australia will remain strong this year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IAM members in New Zealand have provided feedback as official estimates forecast that the equivalent of 1% of the population of moved from the country in the 12 months ending October 2025, the highest number since the 2008 global financial crisis.
